ED800 - Concepts Educational Inquiry - Summer 2019

Steven Weiland

In this course we focused on the basics of education. We were introduced to various philosophies, theories, and history of education. We read books and watched movies to see what theories we saw in action and evaluated how culture affects these theories. Essentially, we were able to see how our own experiences build our educational theories.

KIN829 - Safety and Injury Control - Summer 2019

Jessica Wallace

In this course we focused on injuries and different circumstances that might play a factor in to the likelihood of an injury occurring. We also looked at the prevention and maintenance of injuries. Additionally, we developed emergency action plans and injury control plans that I was able to use as a coach. We also looked at various injury articles and analyzed them to further our knowledge.

CEP802 - Developing Positive Attitudes Towards Learning - Fall 2019

Ian Clemente, Evelyn Oka

In this course we learned about various differences that can affect a students motivation. We were able to look at various approaches that could help us better reach each student. This course allowed me to really see the science behind getting to know my athletes and how that can help me better coach them in a successful way.

KIN857 - Promoting Positive Youth Development Through Sport - Fall 2019

Jennifer Nalepa

In this course we learned about how to coach athletes in a positive way. We learned approaches that are backed by science to grow our athletes to have a positive experience in sports. This course was one of my favorites as it focused on youth sports where I coach. I was able to really adapt my coaching approach to build a positive environment for my athletes and their parents.

TE842 - Elementary Reading Assessment Instruction - Fall 2019

Blythe Anderson

In this course we explored reading assessments and how to teach reading. We were able to look at many cases and determine what approaches we would use for each student. Additionally, we participated in a book club where we analyzed Words Their Way, a book that teaches phonics. I was able to learn an excellent foundation for teaching our own daughter to read during this course.

KIN856 - Physical Bases of Coaching - Summer 2020

Anthony Moreno

In this course we were introduced to various ways to obtain information to grow as a coach. Additionally, we looked at the physical science of our sport and the athletes we coach. We also created injury assessments and were able to see what injuries are prevalent in our sport and work to prevent those injuries. This course really allowed me to grow as a coach to understand the basics of what I am asking of my players at each practice.

CEP800 - Learning in School and Other Settings - Spring 2021

Stephanie Jennings, Kyle Shack

In this course we looked at different teaching and behavior theories and how they contributed to learning. The course structure had an explore create and share flow which allowed for me to really apply what I was learning. We also created a habit plan where we tried to change a habit of our own. Additionally, we worked to create our own personal theory of learning incorporating what we learned in this course.

KIN868 - Skill Development in Athletes - Spring 2021

Andrew Driska

In this course we learned about constraints and how they can be used in coaching athletes. We also learned various coaching methods and how they line up the ideas we have about coaching. We analyzed current drills we used in practices to see if they were beneficial and if we should continue using them. Additionally, we created a coaching menu where we analyzed a skill we teach our players and how we coach it and we were able to see what adjustments needed to be made to better the way we coach.

TE836 - Awards & Classics of Children's Literature - Spring 2021

Hannah Grisham

In this course we analyzed various books and compared them with the awards criteria to see how they withstood the test of time. Additionally, we reviewed various awards and their criteria to see if they were inclusive. In this course we read many children’s books and looked deep into them from different medias they used to the authors who wrote them. This course allowed me to really step back and look at a book and not choose one just because it is an award winner.

ED870 - Capstone Seminar - Spring 2021

Aric Gaunt, Matt Koehler

In this course we created a professional portfolio through means of a website. The website allowed me a place to store my best work to share with future employers and fellow coaches. This course encouraged me to grow my professional network and advance my use of technology. I was able to receive constructive feedback to help improve my website as well as give feedback to help my fellow teachers.
